Boards get all the attention and none of the failures. What holds a deck flat for a decade is the substructure underneath it, the pedestal heights and the falls set before a single board goes down.

Questions

The questions we actually get.

Short answers, and a plain no when the honest answer is that a figure is not confirmed yet.

Why aluminium instead of composite boards?

It does not absorb water and does not swell, and it spans further so the frame can be lighter. It costs more, so it earns its place on fully exposed installations such as a roof terrace in the sun all day.

Can decking be laid straight onto an existing slab?

It should not be. The frame lifts the boards clear so water can leave and air can move underneath, and it lets the surface be levelled and given a fall independently of whatever the slab is doing.

How do I know the substructure was built properly?

Ask for photographs of the frame before the boards go down. Once the deck is boarded nobody can see the joists, the pedestal heights or the fall, and that is where decks fail.
